Welcome and thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Katherine (Kathy) Lin and I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Dartmouth College. Prior to this position, I was an NIA postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Demography and Ecology and Center for Demography of Health and Aging at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
I received my PhD in Sociology at the University of Michigan. During my time at Michigan, I was also an affiliate of the Population Studies Center, and an NIA funded predoctoral trainee. Prior to starting my doctoral program, I obtained a B.A in Sociology and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences from Northwestern University.
I enjoy working on projects that make use of multiple types of data (surveys, in-depth interviews, etc.) to gain novel social insight. I also enjoy, and seek out, collaborative work and team-based projects as it gives me the opportunity to learn from other people and grow my skillset. I have methodological expertise in quantitative data analysis (survey methods, longitudinal data analysis, statistical modeling) as well as qualitative techniques (in-depth interviewing, coding, ethnography/participant observation). My substantive expertise is in population health, gender, work-family, and professions, including deep knowledge about work-family factors and health and well-being, as well as the medical education process and medical professional autonomy across organization types.
I can be reached at katherine dot y dot p dot lin at dartmouth dot edu.
